Ah, summer evening youth groups! Tonight was Messy game night… Banana splits in the mouth, egg toss, a lesson on trying to get toothpaste back in the tube (try it! Just like words, once they’re spoken you can’t put them back), lotsa water balloon action, etc. I’m thinking the yard is going to be full of critters tonight! Praise God for these youth!

Fillmore County Relay for Life: the “Faith Heelers” team from our church included survivors, families and individuals as we joined with others in fundraising for cancer research. Thanks to all who worked so hard to organize the event and those who joined the team!

Stump the Pastor... polished rocks!
FRIDAY FODDER- Yesterday we celebrated the life of David A “Doc” Portwood, who has been variously described as an icon, a legend, one of the last patriarchs of the Community. While all those are descriptive and accurate, what most of us would call him is a good man and a true friend. His generosity, his honesty, his heart for all are an inspiration to those who knew him. I will miss him, and I was blessed to be his pastor and his friend. Grandson Dan Kohler says it well, “He was a good man. ‘Good’ is a deliberate word...it is an intentional word. It is a purposeful word. [Grandfather] was a good man. He was the man who taught me kindness without agenda, righteousness without fear, community without judgment and love without question...” This good man will be missed, and because of those lessons he taught us all he will be remembered. Forever. Go in peace, my brother, go in peace.
Proverbs 16:9 - Just when you think you’re leaving a bit late for your morning walk, God surprises you with a gorgeous sunrise and a setting full moon! Who’s in charge? #Glorysighting
FRIDAY FODDER- Connections. Relationship. In families, communities and churches it’s all about relationships: relationships with each other, relationships with God and relationships with our neighbors. As I look back on the events of the last couple weeks – few of which I have pictures–How blessed I feel to be part of this community as it celebrates its war heroes, raises money for cancer in a fun way, celebrates 98th birthdays, Entertains at community festivals. In short, it’s no place to stay in your shell… Jesus was all about connecting folks with each other, connecting the marginalized with justice, connecting the unloved with love. At the county fair worship service at 8 AM, at the 1030 service in the church and in the afternoon service at Heritage Crossings, I’ll be talking about those ways that our faith makes us family. And please know that whether you’re at the table each week or you are that long lost cousin, you are welcome here!
Wishing our July Birthdays a HAPPY BIRTHDAYS!
Congratulations to our very own Dayle for his dedication and years of service. On the Fourth of July he was awarded a Quilt of Valor. Congrats Dayle! 🇺🇸 pictured are his grandchildren with him.
Our church said a prayer and lit these candles today, for the Gretna girls who lost their lives earlier this week. And for the one young girl who has a long road ahead of healing, physically and emotionally. Our little church in Geneva NE will continue to pray for all who is hurting.
Thanks POP for hosting VBS this year!

Such a joy today: we baptized Kierstyn and her great grandmother Betty! Special music from mother Brooke’s family, including spiritual well-wishes from her aunt. Not a dry eye in the house. I love my church(es)!! #childofGod
